Poker RTA software: how it works, what to check before you pay, and what it costs in 2026
If you are comparing poker RTA software you have probably noticed that every product page says the same three things: it reads the table, it shows GTO, it is fast. This guide is about the differences that only show up at the table: read accuracy, timing on a live river, what the tool knows about the player across from you, and what happens when it is wrong. Written by the team behind GTO MAX AI; where we compare ourselves to others we say so. Updated October 2026.
1. What RTA software actually does
Automated real-time assistance software has three parts, and a weakness in any one of them makes the other two worthless.
The reader. It turns the screen into a hand state: your cards, the board, every stack, every bet, the pot, the dealer button, who has folded and whose turn it is. Modern tools read the pixels of a shared window, because reading the client's memory or hand-history files is fragile and is the first thing a poker client's anti-cheat looks for. A good reader is built per site, because GGPoker, PokerStars and PokerNow draw cards, chips and folds in completely different ways.
The solver. It turns the hand state into a strategy. Preflop comes from charts. Flops come from a precomputed library, because a flop subtree takes minutes and gigabytes to solve. Turns and rivers are small enough to be solved live if the tool has the engine for it; otherwise they come from a library too, which means approximate ranges and sizes.
The advice layer. It turns the strategy into something you can act on in two seconds: the line, the frequencies, the size. The better tools add why. The best add the opponent.
Most products on the market are a reader plus a library. The question to ask is what each one does when the spot is not in the library and when the player across from you is not a solver.
2. Six things to test in the trial
Every RTA offers a trial. Spend it like this, with play-money or a home game table so you are not breaking any site's rules while you test.
1. Read every number for ten hands
Keep the tool's "what it reads" view open and compare it to the table: stacks, bets, pot, board, folds. One misread bet label taken for a stack produces confident, wrong advice. Count the errors. A tool without a visible read view is asking you to trust it blind.
2. Time the river
The advice must be there when the action reaches you on every street. A river solve that lands after you have clicked is decoration. Count seconds from the river card to the advice on five hands.
3. Change the window size
Resize the table, move it, put another window over the corner. Readers that depend on fixed pixel positions break; readers that find the felt and the cards geometrically keep going.
4. Ask what it knows about the opponent
Play twenty hands against the same player and look for any change in the advice. If the answer against a station and against a nit is the same frequency table, the tool is giving you the floor of the game, not an edge over the person in front of you.
5. Ask why
A line with a reason ("he folds to 70% of river bets, bet 75%") teaches you something and tells you when to override it. A frequency alone does neither.
6. Break it
Sit out, change seats, let a hand go to showdown, let the client show an animation. Watch whether the tool recovers on its own or needs a restart.
3. What RTA software costs
Prices cluster in three bands. Manual tools (a solver subscription or a chart app you consult by hand) run from free to about $100 a month, and cost you the time to type every spot. Automated library tools are sold as subscriptions in the low hundreds per month. Tools that add live solving, an opponent model and reasoning sit above that, priced by the week because that is how most serious players buy them: GTO MAX AI is $79 a week for the solver plan and $179 a week with the player model, paid in crypto, after a 30-minute trial.
The number to compare is not the price but the price against the stakes you play. A tool that saves one big mistake a session pays for itself at 50NL; a tool that misreads one stack a session costs more than it charges at any stake.
4. How the tools compare
| Tool | Reads the table | Turn and river | Knows the opponent | Explains the line | Runs in |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GTO MAX AI | Pixel reader per site, OCR on-device | Solved live with the real ranges and stacks, in seconds | Yes: Bayesian profile per player, kept across sessions | Yes, AI-written reasons | Chrome or Edge, nothing installed, up to 4 tables |
| GTO Hero | Screen share, table marked by the user at setup | Precomputed library | No | No | Browser |
| rta.poker | Desktop capture | Precomputed library | No | No | Desktop |
| Manual (GTO Wizard, PioSOLVER, charts) | No, you type the spot | Whatever you have time to enter | No | In depth, after the hand | Desktop or web |
We make GTO MAX AI, so read our row as a claim to test and the others as our understanding of their public pages at the time of writing. The full field, including where RTA is allowed and how sites detect it, is in the poker RTA guide.
5. Which sites each tool reads
A pixel reader has to be built for each client. GTO MAX AI ships readers for GGPoker and its skins (Natural8, BetKings and the rest of the network), ClubGG, PokerNow and, as of October 2026, PokerStars. Each reader has its own detector and its own test frames, so a fix for one site never changes another. A self-setup mode for other clients, where you mark your own table once and the tool reads from there without AI, is in development. If your site is not on a tool's list, ask before you pay; "works on all sites" usually means "works where you mark the boxes yourself and hope".
More on the GG network specifically, where conventional HUDs do not run: RTA for GGPoker, Natural8 and ClubGG.

6. FAQ
What is the best poker RTA software?
Judge it on three things: whether it reads the table itself without you marking boxes, whether it knows anything about the opponent, and whether it explains the line. Most tools do the first. GTO MAX AI is the only one we know of that does all three, live.
Does RTA software need to be installed?
The current generation runs in the browser: you share the poker window with a web page and the reading happens on the tool's server. Desktop tools install a capture program on your machine, which is also what a poker client's process scan looks for.
How much does poker RTA software cost?
Manual tools cost from free to about $100 a month plus your time. Automated tools are sold by the week or month in the low hundreds. GTO MAX AI is $79 a week (solver) or $179 a week (with the player model) after a 30-minute trial.
Can I use RTA software on real-money sites?
Almost every real-money site forbids real-time assistance in its terms, and enforces it. Use it where it is allowed: study, coaching, home games, private clubs and play-money tables.
What is the difference between RTA software and a HUD?
A HUD shows statistics about opponents and no recommendation. RTA software shows what to do in the live spot. GTO MAX AI builds its own player log from what it reads, so you get the statistics as a by-product of the advice.
